| Greetings
from U.S. Senator Ken Salazar Hello fellow Coloradans, As a member of the United States Senate, I have worked tirelessly to pass legislation that provides our children with all the means necessary to fulfill the promise of the American Dream. Our prosperity as a Nation depends on our willingness to make a sound investment in our children’s health and education.
Protecting our State’s land and water is essential to our quality of life here in Colorado. That is why I recently met with Interior Secretary Kempthorne, to discuss the need for greater cooperation from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Department of Interior with the state of Colorado regarding oil and gas development in the state, drilling on the Roan Plateau and other public land-use issues. I have placed a hold on the confirmation of the BLM director nominee until Secretary Kempthorne responds to my request concerning a more responsive relationship between our State, the BLM and the Department of Interior. Finally, this week the Senate Energy Committee approved the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area in the San Luis Valley and the South Park National Heritage Area in Park County. This Federal designation will help enshrine these areas as important places to be recognized and appreciated by all Coloradans for many years to come. As we approach the August work period, I will work throughout Colorado and meet with our State’s law enforcement officials, businesses and farmers and ranchers to discuss the issues that matter most to Coloradans. I look forward to seeing you soon in your community. Thank you,
