WASHINGTON, D.C. - “The border fence bill approved today by the House is a one-dimensional attempt to address a complex problem. The Senate passed bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform legislation earlier this year, and Congress has a remarkable opportunity to deliver that reform to the Nation. We need to secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws and address the economic and human reality of the millions of undocumented workers currently in America in a comprehensive manner. Increased border security – including additional fencing along the Mexican border – is a key component of the Senate’s bill. However, piecemeal solutions will not solve this complex problem; the House should appoint members to a conference committee so that the legislative process can move forward and Congress can produce a real solution.” # # #
