DENVER, CO - Colorado and the American West are once again at our Nation’s frontier, not as wilderness at the edge of settled territory, but as leaders in the new energy revolution. Everywhere one looks in Colorado and the West there are new solar, wind and biofuel projects sprouting up in our rural communities and outside our major cities.

Colorado’s burgeoning renewable energy sector is quickly furthering the state’s role as the renewable energy capital of the Nation and world leader in the new energy economy. Colorado possesses a rare combination of renewable energy resource potential and established - and growing - renewable energy technological expertise.

Over the last two weeks, United States Senator Ken Salazar has met with several of our state’s innovative business and military leaders who have spearheaded Colorado and the West’s leadership in new energy research, innovative technology and cutting edge projects.

This Friday, Senator Salazar’s Colorado-wide energy tour will culminate in his third annual energy summit, “New Frontiers in Energy Summit 2008,” with the Secretary of Energy, Samuel Bodman, as the keynote speaker at the PPA Event Center in Denver (2105 Decatur Street, Denver, CO 80211).

“Colorado and the West are leading the way forward to a new energy frontier for our Nation, with promising cutting edge and cleaner energy technologies. This bodes well for our Nation’s ability to rid its addiction to foreign oil, responsibly develop its oil and gas resources, employ smart, renewable energy technologies and create more jobs in our forgotten rural areas,” said Senator Salazar.

The summit will also feature discussions with ‘Colorado Pioneers’ in the new energy frontier such as leaders from Range Fuels, Vestas Wind Technology and Abengoa Solar. In addition, the summit will highlight work being done in the public and utility sectors and feature speakers from the Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory, Green Print Denver, and Public Service Company of Colorado.

“Our energy future is bright, but only if we continue to commit ourselves to developing our next frontier: a new energy economy. I am proud to host my third annual New Frontiers in Energy Summit to highlight the great work that is being done here in Colorado, as we continue to be a trailblazer in our Nation’s quest for a cleaner energy future.”

Following the opening remarks at the summit at 9:45AM, Senator Salazar and Secretary Bodman will hold a joint media availability. For a more detailed schedule of events, please click here.
