Sen. Salazar Urges White House to Expedite Federal Judge Nominations

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, United States Senator Ken Salazar sent a letter to President Bush urging the White House to act on the nominations of judicial appointments to fill the vacancies on the Colorado District of the United States District Court in a timely manner so they can be considered during this legislative session. More than six weeks ago, Senator Salazar recommended potential nominees to the White House based on the advice of the Judicial Nominations Advisory Commission he established earlier this year.

Below is the full text of the letter Senator Salazar sent to President Bush:

May 19, 2008

President George Bush
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear Mr. President,

On April 3, I forwarded to White House Counsel Fred Fielding the names of three highly-qualified individuals to fill the vacancies on the Colorado District of the United States District Court. I made those recommendations based on the expert evaluation provided to me by the bipartisan Judicial Nominations Advisory Commission I established earlier this year.

I appreciate the periodic updates I have received from the Counsel’s office in the more than six weeks since I forwarded these names for your consideration. I want to repeat my intention to work constructively with you, Senator Allard and my colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee to fill these vacancies. I urge you to complete your internal review process as soon as possible and send these nominations to the Senate so they can be considered in a timely manner during this legislative session.

I look forward to working with you on this important matter.

Sincerely,

Ken Salazar
United States Senator
